Google and China. Principles for sale?
It seems Google has made an 'accommadation' with the Chinese authorities in order to gain access to the Chinese internet market.
The position of some is that any search engine, even censored, is better than none. But it would seem to me that holding out until the usefulness, even necessity of search engines becomes self evident, and the lack thereof becomes an obvious obstacle to Chinese engagement in the World Wide Web would be a far more principled and useful stance to take.
I do believe in freedom of speech. I disagree with Google's position and actions. Just to register my feelings, I've changed my homepage to Yahoo for the time being.
